Really?  Any chance you could take a screenshot and post it?  I would be very interested.

Saw it in Waterloo today, not nearly that speed.  Would love to see a screenshot.

Doesn't show i wireless anywhere...but I can assure you it is (I used 'mobilespeedtest.com'). Any other good options for checking speed?

DANG, 61 seconds for the latency?  What the heck is going on here?!?!  Blackberry used to have an App on App World that would do a speed test and it is a little more reliable than those web based tests when it comes to a mobile browser.  Hop on there ans search for speed test and see what you come up with.  I think it was made by Cisco and called Cisco Global Internet Speed Test or something similar.  A few quick searches should yield results.  Go forth and test friend and report back!

Found the Cisco app you were referring to (which by the way, BlackBerry App World search sucks big time) but it wouldn't let me install on my device. Found another app called "Fixmo" that includes a speedtest amongst other things. Different results...take a look...

Did you do a couple?  They turned 3G on in Cedar Rapids today and I'm rocking pretty consistent 700Kbps downstream with my Nexus.  I peaked up to 900 and see a lot in the 800 range.  Running about 400 - 500 upstream with only ~110ms latency, which is pretty dang good for a latency.  I'm not sure why there is such a variation in your speed tests, but I would assume anything showing 2Mbps downstream at this point is inaccurate.  Maybe down the road if they go HSPA+ I could see those speeds being real, but most likely its a proxy/buffer thing where it preloaded the file and then it thought it went faster than it did.  Anyway, I would definitely try out that Blackberry a little more and see if you can't get any higher speed results from that.

I started getting 3G on i wireless in downtown Iowa City on Monday. Ran the Speed Test (speedtest.net) android app on it and got 421 kbps up and 408 kbps down on it. Coverage doesn't seem to make it to far out of the downtown area. Still Edge when north of the I-80 / Dubuque St. area.

Nice, nothing in the Quad Cites yet. Maybe soon if Iowa City, CR, and Waterloo all have it.

If/when they turn on I80/North Dodge (hey, guess where I work) then I will be jumping all over it.  We have Sprint PCS microcell at our building and they transmit right on top of the i wireless 1900MHz assignment, pretty much wiping it out.  When I asked the installers they said "well we don't want to interfere with our own signal".  Once AWS is running I'll run to the store and get a 3G device.

Looks like the west side of Iowa City and Coralville's 3G coverage just went live late Friday. Starting getting a 3G lock in the Oakdale Campus area on Friday evening. Checked where it was coming from with an android app called "Atennas". Antennas shows you the location of the tower that you're connected to, and area alternates, on Google Maps. The tower appears to be just off Kennedy Parkway near the Melrose St./ Highway 218 interchange. Not sure if it is a new tower or not. Wasn't getting a good enough signal to bother with benchmarking it, but it was overriding the tower, that I normally hook up to on EDGE, which is just off 12th Ave. and 8th St. in Coralville. The new 3G i wireless tower is about 4 miles farther away.

Seems like that might be a problem if you're pulling towers a long ways away versus your nearby one...

That Antennas app is pretty much worthless.  Most likely it is telling you that you are hopping on a site farther away because it is making up a site that doesnt exist.  First of all, it uses signal fluctuations and the compass in your phone to try and figure out where you are, and unless you leave it running and drive around, its pretty useless with its results, second of all, apparently Android limits the ability for apps to process 3G antenna data or something, because that app, and RF Signal Tracker both have lots of trouble when you are on 3G even finding a cell site at all.  Antennas even says right in the app, "Please switch to GPRS/EDGE "2G only" and then says "3G Support Very Limited"

I know for a fact its pegging cell sites that dont even exist.
